A pretty loaded question. Call it stubborn, but in business I generally think that the right choice is doing what most people don’t do. And my take on AI is no different. To be fair, I’m sure that this will change and evolve (as it already has), but for now, I welcome and embrace discussion, I’ve done my education, and independent research on this topic, and I’m also confident that this is a positive stance for my business.

It’s worth highlighting that marketers who use AI aren’t necessarily lazy. It’s a great way to maximise your client load. Generally, my take is that it falls in the same bracket as marketers who use templates. When all of their clients have eerily similar websites or ads, you know what I’m talking about. My stance is pretty direct: if one of my staff uses AI for strategy or client-facing work, they will be immediately fired. It’s the only thing that one of my staff can do that would get them disciplined.

Personally, I’ve never thought that Ai actually gave me smart strategy advice, yes it can organise calendars, draft emails, take notes, research, but strategy? Not so much. At least, it produces the same generic strategy that essentially the rest of the industry use. How the hell are we meant to be cutting edge with regurgitated garbage that everyone else uses?

I’m fully aware that a lot of people believe AI tools can replace agencies like mine. I’m preparing for it never to replace mine, though. I believe that AI will end up making a similar impact as what Canva did. Good designers, where all of a sudden leaders in their field, faster, more efficient, better. Inexperienced designers were suddenly good, but good designers are still just good.

Nothing can replace experience, and the ability to care about our clients, their livelihoods, and put their goals as our own. Even more so, nothing can replace the ability to connect years of industry experience, with deep knowledge of your business and product, with a creative analysis of your relevant audience. That’s what we do, that most agencies don’t, and AI can never. Even when it does, my staff and I are experienced strategists who understand complex scenarios and implement complex campaigns that look pretty simple to your audience. Our track record will be all the future proofing we’ll need. Even when Zuck’s AI takes over the world of advertising.
